Thomas Jefferson Fund 2020 Call for Proposals is now open!

Created by the Embassy of France in the United States and the FACE Foundation, the Thomas Jefferson Fund aims to encourage and support cooperation among the most promising young French and American researchers, and foster forward-looking collaborative research that addresses the most pressing global challenges.

The selected Franco-American projects will receive up to $ 20,000 over a period of 2 years.

Applications are accepted in the three following fields:

  • Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS)
  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
  • Science for Society (interdisciplinary STEM-HSS projects)

In support of the Make Our Planet Great Again Initiative launched by President Emmanuel Macron in June 2017, the Thomas Jefferson Fund is offering additional grants this year for research projects related to Earth System Science, Climate Change and Sustainability, and Energy Transition.

The most innovative projects involving significant transatlantic mobility, collaborative research activities, the organization of joint workshops or conferences, the publication of joint articles, and the participation of younger researchers (PhDs) will receive the highest priority.

The grant will cover travel expenses between France and the US, accommodation costs and a part of the organizational costs of joint conferences, and of publication costs.

Partner researchers are encouraged to obtain « in-kind » and/or « in cash » co-funding from their institutions or from other sources of funding to cover all other types of expenses necessary to the successful implementation of the joint research project.

Proposals must be jointly submitted by one American researcher and one French researcher at the beginning of their career with mid- to long- term positions at a research or higher education institution in the United States or in France (post-doctorate level, assistant or associate professor, maître de conférences or chargé de recherche).

Deadline for the submission of the project proposals: February 24, 2020

Estimated announcement of the selected projects: June 2020
