Presentation of Prizes : "The Environment in My School" and "Bilingual Generation" [fr]
During the events of La Semaine Francaise d’Arnaudville this year, the Consulate General of France in Louisiana congratulated the winners of two competitions: “The Environment in my School” and “Bilingual Generation”.
In view of the Paris Conference on the Climate in December 2015 (http://www.cop21.gouv.fr/fr), the contest “The Environment in my School” was intended for all levels of primary and middle school French immersion programs as well as the FLE program.
The five judges (Mavis Frugé, Nunu – Jean-Robert Frigault, Codofil – Raymond Hinz, education attaché for the Consulate General of France in Louisiana – Christelle Gautier and Emmanuelle Bernier, professors of English at Lycée Beaumont in Bretagne) examined the proposed projects using 8 criteria and awarded these winners with funds to assist with the creation of the projects:
1st Place: “Défis de l’école verte” - Le Lycée Français de La Nouvelle Orléans
2nd Place: “J’aime la terre, je recycle” – Lafayette
3rd Place: “Protection du Bayou” – COES Cut Off
4th Place: “Beau jardin : la durabilité pour la santé” – Lake Charles
5th Place: “Mural International” – Baton Rouge
Lycée Français of New Orleans, which won first place, submitted a video that demonstrated the dedication of their students (named the green agents!) to the sustainability of their school.
The “Bilingual Generation” competition focused on American high school students in Louisiana from ages 16 to 18. Each student could create one piece of art using the media of their choice, or compose an essay from 10 lines to one page, focused on the theme of protecting the local environment. Particularly valued in these pieces were the qualities of creativity, innovation, and communication.
During La Semaine Francaise d’Arnaudville, a group of judges chose the best pieces and their creators were interviewed at Town Hall on Saturday, April 18. The winner was presented with a stay at the CAVILAM language school in Vichy from July 21-30, 2015.
The Consultate General congratulates Janny Mesa, of Haynes Academy For Advanced Studies, who won this magnificent trip and will represent Louisiana in France!
Thanks to the Institut Français, Codofil, and NUNU Arts and Culture Collective for their support and the success of these competitions.
