Message of the Consul General to French Community
Mes chers compatriotes,
Following the attack in Nice which took place on July 14, the Consulate General of France has reinforced security measures and remains vigilant regarding the security of the French community.
If no direct threats have been identified concerning the security of our nationals in Louisiana, we invite you, once again, to show the utmost vigilance.
France will observe a national mourning for three days, until July 18, included. For this reason, all outside activities and festivities for the Bastille Day Fête which are schedule for this afternoon, July 15, are cancelled. Cultural activities organized inside the New Orleans Museum of Art will continue as scheduled. Culture should not give in to barbarism!
We will be meeting this evening at 6pm on the front steps of the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) to pay tribute to the victims of the attack in Nice, and to observe together a moment of silence. Thank you to all who have informed us of similar events, which you have organized in memory of the victims across the state of Louisiana. We can assist in circulating that information with you.
Mes chers compatriotes, France is under strain, facing so much suffering, violence and hate. We must believe in our beautiful country, believe in France, which, united, will be stronger. Because France is more than a country, France is an idea, a symbol. Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, more than ever, we must defend our values!
Vive la République, et Vive la France !
