Le Grand Tour 2017 to include Festival International de Louisiane [fr]
For the first time since its inception, Le Grand Tour will include the United States’ largest francophone festival, Festival International de Louisiane.
Le Grand Tour brings together great cultural and francophone-heritage events from around the world to illustrate the wealth, diversity, and vitality of Francophone culture, strengthening its positioning on the global stage. Under the patronage of the President of France and supported by Jean-Marie Le Guen, Secretary of State for Development and Francophonie, in collaboration with the International Organization of Francophonie and its Secretary General, Michaëlle Jean, Le Grand Tour is a Francophone tour spanning over five continents in a hundred stages to be held throughout 2017.
Each stop of the Grand Tour was selected based on suggestions from the international cultural network and in close collaboration with the members of the steering committee (OIF, Ministry of Culture and Communication, Ministry of Industry (French Institute, AEFE, Alliance Française, UniFrance), the French Ministry of Overseas, TV5 Monde, France, Media Monde). Each event, chosen to welcome the French-speaking cultures of the world, can be found in a specially created "Voyage en Francophonie" passport.
For the first time since its inception, Le Grand Tour will include the United States’ largest francophone festival, The Festival International de Louisiane (FIL). With over 300,000 festival goers every year, this unique annual festival features musical performances by artists from over 20 countries along with workshops, exhibits, visual art, theater and other forms of performance arts.
“We are extremely honored that Le Grand Tour extends its visits outside of France this year,” expressed Consul Général of France Grégor Trumel “and what better way of highlighting francophone culture than this unique festival… in Louisiana of course!”
