Dr Thomas Klinger
Dr Thomas Klinger is head of the department of French and Italian at Tulane University. After hurricane Katrina, Dr Klinger strove to reopen the university’s department of languages, and more particularly at PhD level. He is a recognised and respected linguist, a specialist of French and Creole languages in Louisiana. He is also co-author of the first Louisiana French dictionnary, published in 2010.
Mr. Klinger has worked since 2005 in executive instances for the CODOFIL where his knoweldge of local linguistic situations and his actions dedicated to Louisianan francophonie participated in a qualitative change in the implementation of a new linguistic and educative policy for French in Louisiana.
Mr Klinger has also worked on the construction of an educative proposition that lead to the opening of the Lycée français de la Nouvelle Orléans in August 2011 the only public American charter school that offers the French curriculum, in French, from kindergarten to high school ending in the French baccalaureat and the American High School Diploma.
To recognise his engagement in favouring linguistic and cultural diversity in service of developing French language, for quality public education, Dr. Thomas Klingler is named Chevalier of the Order of the Palmes académiques in July 2013.
